Survey Application Case Study

The survey application is designed to be fun and intuitive for users. Users provide more honest responses because they enjoy progressing through levels, and they receive rewards and monetary compensation for participating in surveys. Transitioning part of the research from paper-based to digital surveys ensures maximum cost-efficiency. The application must provide reliable, real-time statistical data.

Overview

Survey Platform Design: Boosting Engagement and Data Accuracy

  • Developed for a marketing and statistics agency, this application makes completing surveys both fast and rewarding for users.

  • It features an intuitive, clean design with clear icons, ensuring a smooth and engaging user experience.

  • The application’s design assists the agency in collecting accurate and comprehensive statistical data.

  • Users feel as though they are playing a game—it is an entertaining experience through which they earn money by completing surveys.

Impact

  • The design has increased survey completion rates and user engagement by offering a streamlined and rewarding workflow.

  • Improved navigation has accelerated data collection, providing the agency with faster and more accurate insights.

  • Consequently, the platform has led to higher participant retention and provided reliable data for key decision-making.

  • Users can clearly see their progress within a survey, and they also have a transparent overview of their earnings.

  • Furthermore, the application provides clear instructions on how users can withdraw the money they have earned.

Problem

User Challenges & Drop-Off Points

  • Through the analysis of the competition and previous versions, a conclusion was reached about the key problems.

  • Users got lost and abandoned surveys halfway through because they could not see their progress.

  • The surveys felt repetitive and boring, leading to low completion rates.

  • Finding playout details was difficult. Leaving participants confused about how to get paid.

  • There is fear among users about earning and transferring money.

Research

Looking beyond the numbers

To better understand where friction appeared across the dashboard, I reviewed financial workflows and conducted user interviews with people regularly managing transactions, balances, and payment activity. The research focused on how users scanned information, interpreted financial context and navigated everyday tasks across the interface.

What we learned

According to research, users want to earn extra money and enjoy fun surveys in their spare time. Their biggest issue is dealing with boring questionnaires and confusing app navigation. The main fears of users centre on scam apps, identity theft, and doing work without actually getting paid. To solve this, the app must provide clear pay out information, transparent progress tracking and fun rewards to build confidence and trust.

"If the surveys are too long and I can't even see how close I am to finishing or where my reward goes, I just close the app."

Ideation

Exploring interface directions

Through interviews and workflow analysis, I identified recurring patterns in how users reviewed balances, tracked transactions, and navigated everyday financial tasks. The biggest issue wasn’t financial complexity itself. Users often stopped to compare balances, reopen transaction details, or rescan multiple sections before taking action.

Exploring different dashboard concepts focused on hierarchy, transaction visibility, and clearer everyday financial workflows.

Testing interaction flows early

Before moving into high-fidelity designs, I tested early interaction flows using low-fidelity paper prototypes. These quick sessions helped validate navigation patterns, layout hierarchy, and task completion behavior before investing time into polished UI design.

Designs

Refining the dashboard experience

The final redesign focused on improving clarity across everyday financial tasks through stronger hierarchy, simplified navigation, and more contextual transaction feedback. The updated interface made balances easier to compare, actions easier to locate, and activity flows easier to understand at a glance.

Lessons

Designing for clarity, confidence, and everyday financial workflows

  • The final design is a clear and transparent user interface for the user

  • Each page has an icon so that the user can easily remember it visually

  • There is a progress bar where the user can see until the part of the survey has stopped

  • The earnings page is clear and transparent

  • The instruction for transferring earned money is easy and seems reliable for the user
