Overview

The challenge

  • The need to redesign the old application.

  • A new look of the application is needed, modern and with pleasant colors.

  • To make it look more organized and transparent for the user.

  • That it is easier for the user to find options for customizing notes.

  • Test on users during different stages of prototype development.

Problem

Redesign of the existing application to make it look organized and transparent

In the research, the survey of existing users via the Google Play Store was used and new prototypes were tested

Slow and Unintuitive Note Entry: Typing in notes is inefficient, which disrupts workflow and reduces productivity.

  • Unclear Interface Design: Complex navigation makes it difficult for users to find and access key features quickly.

  • Lack of Visual Feedback: Missing confirmation or progress indicators leaves users unsure if actions were completed successfully.

  • No Reward or Motivation System: The absence of rewarding visual elements reduces user satisfaction and long-term engagement as tasks are completed.

Data Loss & Disappearing Content: Notes, typed text, and list progress (such as checked boxes) disappear randomly or without warning.

  • High Storage Consumption: The app takes up a large amount of storage space on the user's device.

  • Backup & Sync Failures: Backup and restore features fail to work properly, and users are unable to transfer or upload saved notes from Google Drive when switching phones.

  • Intrusive Ads & Performance Bugs: The app has become increasingly buggy over time and contains too many advertisements.

  • Image Attachment Limitations: Images cannot be embedded/inserted directly into notes and are only added as thumbnail links.

  • Unclear Saving Mechanism: The manual saving process (e.g., needing to tap a specific checkmark to save) is not intuitive, leaving users unsure if their progress is saved.

Design

Designing approval workflows

  • It is necessary to design the notes so that it is reviewed for the user

  • The costumization of the notes itself should be easy and intuitive.

  • The note application offers the flexibility to customize its design, allowing users to remove unnecessary options and rearrange the page hierarchy to suit their preferences.

Reflection

Designing for operational complexity

  • The resulting design

  • Redesigned appearance, organized and modern

  • Users are given the opportunity to easily customize notes

  • The application contains an advertisement banner that can be removed in the premium version

  • The user can remove or add the items he needs in the application

  • With the design of headers and icons, the problem of memorizing pages is solved
